Anatoly Karpov title

Who would be Bobby Fischer’s first challenger? Most pundits chose Boris Spassky, for though his record as Champion had not been too impressive, his dominant play in the mid-sixties had not been forgotten. But in the second round of the Candidates’ Matches, Spassky faced the youthful Anatoly Karpov, who advanced to the finals with remarkably mature play. Here he gives a textbook example of exploiting a small positional advantage on the white side of the Sicilian Defense Opening.
