Hi,
After reviewing Bobby Fischer's "Game of the Century" in your site, I wondered if there is a "Blunder of the century" game played by a Grandmaster.
Best regards.
Dear viewer,
There is no official game played by a GM named like that... yet.
However, game two of the six-game match "Man vs. Machine" in November 2006 between reigning World Chess Champion Vladimir Kramnik and Chess computer Deep Fritz in Bonn, Germany, was described as the possible "Blunder of the Century" by GM Susan Polgar.
Kramnik's 34th move ...Qe3?? came as a big surprise since he overlooked a mate in one by Deep Fritz which immediately checkmated him with 35. Qh7#.
Alexander Roshal, a Chess journalist, tried to explain the blunder by saying that the mating pattern of a Queen on square h7 protected by a Knight on f8 is extremely rare and not contained in a Grandmaster's automatic repertoire.
