The 2016 world
Chess championship was held from Nov. 11 to Nov. 30, 2016
in New York city, United States under the auspices of the
World Chess Federation (FIDE). This 12-game match between
the current world champion Magnus Carlsen of Norway and
challenger 26 year old Sergey Karjakin of Russia would
determine the 2016 world Chess champion. The time control is
set at 40 moves in 100 minutes, then 50 extra minutes at
move 40, and 15 extra minutes at move 60, with 30 seconds
per move increment starting after move 61 has been made. A
player must reach a score of 6.5 points to win the match.
Tie-break games would be played after 12 rounds if score
remains even. Magnus Carlsen retained his World Chess Championship title winning the rapid tie-break 3
to 1. |
